WELCOME TO H.O.G.® CLEARWATER!

The Clearwater HOG Chapter was born in the early days of 2006, when the founding members migrated from the Johannesburg Chapter, to the “soon to be established” Clearwater Harley Davidson Dealership, situated next to the “soon to be opened” Clearwater Shopping Mall, just off Hendrik Potgieter in the West Rand – and the Wild West would never be the same again….

Founders Georg and Nel Steyn, Rob and Leslie McCoy, Tony and Cheryl Caine, Bram and Chrissy Jeavons, Gary and Di Gurnell, Luis Falcoa and several others quickly set about establishing what has become the greatest HOG Chapter in the entire Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.

Indeed, the first Clearwater HOG Chapter meetings were held on the floor of the new dealership, which was still under construction at the time – a passion that continues today !

Breakfast Runs in these early heady and exciting days were held once a month, with anything from 6 to 12 bikes and founding Head Road Captain Luis Falcoa and Road Captain Gary Gurnell developed and upgraded what were the existing Johannesburg HOG Chapter Marshalling practices, into what are now internationally regarded as the benchmark in safe Marshalling and Pack Riding practice - The Clearwater Way – in fact our particular style of “assertive safety” practiced over and over again, through regular training and interaction between the Marshalls and the Pack, sets us apart from any other Chapter in the world …and that’s a fact !

The early rallies consisted of destinations like Clarens, Colesburg, Swaziland, Mafeking, Rustenburg and Dullstroom and whilst many of these have remained over the years, new and exciting other destinations have been added such as White River, Magoebaskloof, Margate (Africa Bike Week) and a host of fabulous game farms and other world class destinations.

Whilst some of the founders have moved on, other have remained and continued to build on the legacy they had initiated in early 2006.  Our fabulous Clearwater HOG Chapter has experienced unprecedented, exponential growth, often creating some interesting challenges for both Dealership and the HOG alike and in rising to meet these challenges head on, the Clearwater HOG Chapter is now respected as the top HOG Chapter in the whole EMEA region, especially for its many achievements – some of which are detailed below:

• Clearwater Marshalling and Safety Training is the most respected in the country.

• Clearwater Breakfast Runs regularly exceed 90 bikes and sometimes top out at 130 to 150 bikes – an awe inspiring sight, who’s rolling thunder vibrates a sleepy West Rand into full breakfast readiness.

• As of February 2011, the Clearwater HOG Chapter stands at over 660 Active Members (paid up members) which makes us the biggest and most active Chapter in EMEA.

• The Clearwater HOG spirit is indescribable – the Dealership, Marshalls, Committee and Members are bound by an unwritten value and commitment to each other – as evidenced by the fact that we Ride together, we Rally together, we Party together, we Socialize together and we Stick together – what a Family!

• The Clearwater HOG Ladies of Harley and especially the Ladies Riding Section is the biggest and most active in EMEA and includes several ladies who are active and highly respected Marshalls.

• The Clearwater HOG actively supports FAMILY and FUN – with responsible and safe riding practices and the large numbers of family members that join in our events and rallies is evidence of this successful focus
